Ukraine Reports Over Seventy Injuries in Russian Airstrike on Kyiv

(MENAFN) Ukraine reported on Sunday that more than 70 people were wounded during an extensive Russian air assault, primarily aimed at the capital city, Kyiv.

“In total, more than 70 people have been injured across Ukraine so far,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said in a statement on Telegram detailing the overnight bombardment.

Klymenko noted the attack stretched beyond 12 hours, with over 1,500 rescuers and law enforcement personnel engaged in managing the aftermath across 11 regions. The assault damaged over 100 civilian structures.

In Kyiv, Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, confirmed at least four fatalities and 13 injuries. He reported destruction across multiple districts, including damage to a cardiology institute and both residential and commercial buildings.

Meanwhile, Kyiv regional Governor Mykola Kalashnik stated that at least 30 individuals were hurt around the capital area, including three children.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, Governor Ivan Fedorov said at least 34 people suffered injuries during the night attack.

Ukraine’s Air Force announced its air defenses intercepted 568 of 595 drones and 43 out of 48 missiles fired by Russian forces, emphasizing the primary focus was on Kyiv.

“This vile attack came virtually as the close of UN General Assembly week, and this is exactly how Russia declares its true position. Moscow wants to keep fighting and killing, and it deserves the toughest pressure from the world,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement via the US social media platform X.

“We will continue to strike back to deprive Russia of those revenue streams and to compel it toward diplomacy. Everyone who wants peace must back (US) President (Donald) Trump’s efforts and halt any Russian imports,” Zelenskyy added, noting that Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa regions were also impacted.

Responding to the assault, the Russian Defense Ministry asserted the strikes targeted Ukraine’s military-industrial complex and airfield infrastructure.

“The attack's objectives were achieved, and all designated targets were hit,” the ministry said.
