Russia Attacks Ukrainian Prison
According to a statement issued by the Ukrainian Justice Ministry, “as a result of the strike, 16 people among convicts died, 44 people were injured and hospitalized in local hospitals, and more than 50 victims received medical assistance on the spot.”
The statement explained that the attack occurred late Monday and involved four guided aerial bombs which hit the Bilenkivska Correctional Facility.
The ministry noted that the bombardment severely damaged essential sections of the prison, including the main administrative building, the quarantine unit, and the dining area.
Initially, the ministry had reported 17 fatalities and 42 injuries, but later amended the figures with updated information on casualties.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the assault on the social platform X, labeling it “a deliberate strike, targeted, not accidental.”
He emphasized that the attack came despite “the absolutely clear position of the United States, supported by the world,” which had recently urged Russia to cease hostilities and seek diplomatic resolution.
Zelenskyy further asserted that each new assault by Moscow demonstrated that Russia “deserves very harsh, truly painful, and therefore just and effective sanctions pressure.”
